Retrofit Design
Bespoke PAS2035-compliant Retrofit Designs that specify the right measures, in the right sequence, for your property.
What Is a Retrofit Design?
A Retrofit Design is a technical document produced by a qualified Retrofit Coordinator that sets out the specific energy efficiency measures recommended for a property, how they should be installed, and in what order. It goes beyond a simple list of improvements — it considers the interaction between measures, the risk of unintended consequences such as condensation or overheating, and ensures that the proposed works are appropriate for the property's construction type and condition. Under PAS2035, a Retrofit Design is a mandatory document for all publicly funded retrofit projects.
What Our Retrofit Designs Cover
Fabric Measures
We specify insulation improvements to walls, roofs, floors, and windows — selecting the most appropriate products and installation methods for your property's construction type and exposure zone.
Heating & Hot Water Systems
Our designs include recommendations for heating system upgrades, including heat pumps, boiler replacements, and heat interface units, with system sizing and controls specification.
Ventilation Strategy
We assess the impact of airtightness improvements on indoor air quality and specify appropriate ventilation measures to maintain a healthy internal environment.
Measure Sequencing
We determine the correct order in which measures should be installed to avoid unintended consequences and ensure each improvement builds on the last.
Risk Assessment
We identify and document risks associated with the proposed works — including moisture, overheating, and structural considerations — and specify mitigations where required.
Specification & Documentation
We produce a full written specification for each measure, giving contractors clear instructions and providing a basis for quality assurance and sign-off.
Why a Quality Retrofit Design Matters
Protects the Building
A poorly sequenced retrofit can cause moisture damage, condensation, and structural problems. A well-designed retrofit prevents these risks before works begin.
Maximises Performance
Measures that work together deliver far greater energy savings than those installed in isolation. Good design ensures the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Ensures Funding Compliance
Government and local authority funding schemes require a PAS2035-compliant Retrofit Design. Without one, your project may not qualify for available grants.
Gives Contractors Clarity
A detailed specification reduces ambiguity on site, minimises variations, and gives you confidence that works will be completed to the standard you expect.
